The Museum of Indian Culture will host its annual American Indian Artifact Show on Saturday, Aug. 15. The show will feature thousands of Native American artifacts displayed for sale by members of the Artifact Collectors Association of the North East (IACANE). The Artifact Show will be held outdoors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the show will be $5 per person or $7 for the show and museum tour. Admission is free of charge for children 12 and under. The museum is located at 2825 Fish Hatchery Road in Allentown, Pa. This family-friendly event will feature activities including flintknapping, primitive firemaking, sweetgrass basketry and atlatl demonstrations. Activities for children will include archaeology adventures, a mini-excavation where kids will dig and screen for artifacts, and a program titled Talking Arrowheads, stories about artifact collecting by local collector Bruce Hentschel. The museum will also be selling books on a range of Native American topics. The public is invited to bring a hand drum and join Reed Brown, Lakota Nation, for a program, Native American Drumming. Light refreshments will be available for purchase, including a festival favorite, Native American frybread and tacos. Attendees will have an opportunity to get a guided museum tour and purchase items in the Turtle Island gift shop. Wearing masks and social distancing are required during the event. Occupancy maximum will be monitored in compliance with COVID-19 mandates. Proceeds benefit the Museum of Indian Culture.
